Stroke

Stroke

Blood flow and oxygen are suddenly interrupted to an area of brain due to occlusion of blood vessels supplying.

  • •Ischemic stroke:
  • It occurs when the blood supply to part of brain is interrupted . The blocked flow may be due to blood clot or by atherosclerosis. It is 85% of all strokes.
  • •Haemorrhagic stroke:
  • Bleeding in the brain creates congestion and pressure on brain tissue impairing healthy blood flow.
  • •TIA:
  • A temporary interruption of blood flow and oxygen to a part of the brain. Symptoms are similar to those of stroke but they resolve completely without damage to brain tissue.

Dedicated Stroke Ready Unit

If we treat patients of stroke within “golden hour period” starting from one hour to 4.5 hrs from initiation of symptoms, we can prevent paralysis and disability. FAST/BEFAST are the main identification markers for stroke. Here, we give ‘TPA’ injection after evaluation of patients to dissolve the thrombus which helps to recover stroke patients completely. If large stroke, then surgical treatment like ‘Craniotomy’ done to save life and reduce intracranial pressure. Procedures like ‘trombectomy’ also done to remove blockages in golden hour period.

Carotid Angioplasty -done if carotid artery blockages  > 50%
